Sherberton
Farm is a traditional hill farm occupied by the Coakers since 1843. It is
one of the ancient tenements on Dartmoor. The main enterprise is breeding
and rearing sheep and cattle, the wet climate and thin peaty soil precluding
any arable production. We have South Devon and Galloway cattle, Cheviot
and Scotch Blackface sheep. They are reared extensively on grass with feed
supplements (hay, silage or cereals) in winter as necessary. The fattened animals are delivered straight to the local butcher, involving only a single short journey. The beef is hung for 14 -20 days, lamb for 7 days, dressed and bagged. We collect the fresh beef/lamb ready for distribution. The beef is packaged as individual cuts, in bags that are freezer friendly, dated with a "best by date", labelled and priced. There is a flat rate price per Kg (£6.10 as at January 2007) and the customer takes meat from both ends of the beast. Lamb is sold by the half, jointed ready to freeze as required by yourself. The price for lamb depends on the carcass size. A typical beef order would be spread as follows; 38% joints (packaged in 1 to 3Kg packs) 12% steak (packaged in ½Kg packs) 25% stewing beef (packaged in 1Kg packs) 25% mince (packaged in 1Kg packs). All pack sizes approximate Meat is usually supplied fresh so please phone us to find out when the next meat run is due. We may be able to deliver or you may choose to visit us to view the farm and pick up your order. Beef can be supplied frozen but please call first to make sure we're in!!
